God Hears Intelligently

Psalm 6:8 “Depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity; for the LORD hath heard the voice of my weeping.”

Noah Webster 1828 Dictionary Definitions:

  • Heard:  Comes from a word that means “ To hear intelligently”.
  • Intelligently:  Endowed with the faculty of understanding or reason.
  • Voice:  To call aloud; voice aloud; sound aloud; bleating.
  • Bleating: Crying as a sheep.
  • Weeping: Dripping; overflowing; continual weeping.

About everybody that gets caught cries. Tears can be used to deceive and control a situation.   As we manage master manipulators and habitual liars, the importance of hearing the voice of weeping intelligently remains obvious.  If we do not, we could be moved to make all sorts of poor decisions with dire ramifications. Internal Stillness

I believe Psalm 46 is key Scripture for us in corrections. Verse 10 reminds us to “Be still, and know that I am God…” The three key words in this verse are, “still”, “know”, and “exalted”. Still has the thought of “let alone” or “leave it alone”. Know has the thought of “I’ve seen what He can do, will do, has done” I’ve experienced what He can do, will do, has done in me and others.” Exalted is “raised up”. Read More »

Sucker Punched

Every time I watch footage of assaults on officers, I am stirred emotionally. When I see the strike, the officer down and injured, the adrenaline starts pumping. As I was reading Proverbs 3:25-26: “Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh. For the LORD shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.” I was immediately reminded of some recent footage I reviewed of an assault on an officer. Read More »

Open My Eyes

Many occasions invite and press me to enjoy the pleasure of closing my eyes—fatigue, a full stomach, a time of relaxation, a comfortable chair, warm sunshine, darkness, singing birds, a gentle breeze, a rushing stream—really, the list is endless. I find that I like to close my eyes more and more when I’m off duty. Read More »

For A Reason

“God has me here for a reason,” When I hear someone in custody make that statement, my insides shout, “I know the reason! You broke the law!”

God places importance and honor on our profession in Romans 13:1-4, “Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: Read More »

Arrows of the Archer

Genesis 49:23: “The archers have sorely grieved him, and shot at him, and hated him”

As we read of Joseph beginning in Genesis 37, it is revealed that he was God’s chosen man. God had a powerful ministry for him, yet he experienced the arrows of the archers. Just as Joseph, we are uniquely positioned in God’s plan. Corrections work definitely places us where the arrows fly. Read More »

Fully Briefed

It’s a troublesome thing to not be briefed on the day. To come in and find the day starting with the night having been full of activity and to have to assume a position in haste, not being fully briefed, is dangerous and disheartening. It is dangerous for officers and dangerous for inmates. God never starts the day in haste. Read More »

Don’t Get Choked Out

Mark 4:7, 18-19

“And some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up, and choked it, and it yielded no fruit…And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word, And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.” Read More »
